It wasn’t really by choice. Some mean hacker found my unpatched version of Wordpress 1.5, and exploited some security holes to send out some spam. Never again will I fail to patch Wordpress :) . I didn’t have too many problems upgrading. The database was kind of a pain. I created a new DB, then tried to import data from the old DB. Unfortunately I have too much data, so I had to import in small chunks. So far, I don’t really see any real big improvement in Wordpress 2. It does look a little nicer, but from what I see so far, not really worth the effort to upgrade.

Update: I had two plugins that didn’t work: WP-Shortstat and Adhesive.

It’s great if your hosting provider doesn’t have web access to your email account, or as in my case, your employer has blocked access to your normal webmail URL.  You can configure it to have any URL off of your website.  It only took about 20 minutes to install.  Now I just need to find a plugin for it that will allow me to check my Gmail account.

]]> http://mattluce.com/blog/2005/07/21/webmail-for-nuts/feed/ 0 MICFO web hosting Sucks http://mattluce.com/blog/2005/07/20/micfo-web-hosting-sucks/ http://mattluce.com/blog/2005/07/20/micfo-web-hosting-sucks/#comments Thu, 21 Jul 2005 01:44:59 +0000 Matt Luce http://mattluce.com/blog/?p=12 Under no circumstances should you ever use MICFO for web hosting.  I have now moved back to my old hosting service after less than 24 hours with MICFO.  So far on the first day, I have barely been able to connect to my site.  They claim it was a denial of service attack, and that is why I couldn’t get through.  I don’t really think they know what the issue was.  They also took 12 hours to setup my account although they guarantee instant setup.  And to top it all of, I ordered a dedicated IP, but they gave me a shared IP initially.  I guess if sounds too good to be true, then it probably is.

I have to admit, it is very cool. I must have tried every theme about ten times before I settled on this one. I probably should have waited to do all of this work considering that I’m going to change web hosts, so now I’ll have to move everything over.

I think I’ll like blogging. It’s great when you have no one to talk to :) .
