Junk Mail Now Exceeds Standard Mail

Found this great blog entry. The USPS now delivers more junk mail than regular mail. Actually I’m surprised. I thought junk already far exceeded regular mail. It’s really ridiculous when you think about it. Someone is paying to have garbage delivered to your mailbox. Then you pay someone to come and pick up that garbage and take it to the landfill.

I’m with you…I thought this was the case long ago. Mine has dropped down a little now that I’ve contacted my credit card companies and places like that asking not to receive offers and that I am already well aware of their services. I just couldn’t believe I was getting credit card offers for the exact same cards I already own!

Right on, Matt and Derek. The credit card companies are major offenders, and I did as you did and got myself off of their snail spam list. I also get alot of stuff from Time Warner cable and SBC/AT&T and should send them a nasty e-mail as well.
The waste factor is terrible, and though it shouldn’t be that we have to tell them NOT to send us their crap, that’s the way it is, with no end in sight. Keep up the good work, Matt.

Actually, Standard Mail is the class most junk mail is sent. Of the Standard Mail that is actually sent, most of that is junk mail. Bills and other important correspondance can’t even be sent Standard Mail; those are sent First Class. You know those important looking envelopes that turn out to be junk mail? Just look at the postage area – “standard mail” means junk mail and bin it.
