Band Of Brothers
I’ve caught parts of the HBO mini-series a few times on the History Channel, but haven’t seen it in it’s entirety. I had always wanted to rent the entire series on DVD. But I figured why not just read the book rather than sit in from of the idiot box.
Band of Brothers tells the true story of Easy Company, of the 101st Airborne division during World War II. The book follows the group from training, through D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, and finally Hitler’s Eagle’s Nest.
I’ve never been much of a World Ward II buff, but I found this book pretty interesting. I had to do a lot of research on the military terminology in the book, as very little of it is explained. I also had a hard time visualizing the battles that were described, so I’ll probably still rent the DVD some time. Maybe all the television I’ve watched over the years has destroyed my imagination. If you are looking for some light reading, and are interested in World War II, specifically from a soldier’s point of view, this is a pretty good book.
