Energy For Tomorrow
I just signed up for this great program from WE Energies called Energy For Tomorrow. Essentially, it is a way to use renewable sources of energy for your home by paying a little extra. Instead of coal or oil, this program uses biomass, wind, and hydroelectric. I’m not real familiar with biomass as an energy source, but I guess it’s good that we get some use out of the mountains of garbage that our society produces. You can participate at different levels, 25, 50, or 100 percent. At 100% participation, the extra charge is approximately $.02 per kwh. For me, this will only be a few extra dollars a month. For households that use large amounts of energy, this could be more expensive. However, this amount will be lessened becauase WE Energies will reduce the FCA (fuel cost adjustment) charge on your bill proportionally. The FCA is the additional price that WE Energies pays to cover extra energy needs. Last month my FCA was $.009/kwh, so the net additional rate will only be a little over 1 cent extra per kwh. It sounds like a great program, and not that expensive if you think about the benefits. Don’t we spend a lot more money on much more frivolous things? Now I just need to work on using less energy so I can reduce my overall environmental impact.
