Jinja

Spent saturday touring the city of Jinja. My tour operator gave me a free day tour of Jinja in order to appease me for the botched chimpanzee tracking trip. Jinja is about 80 kilometers from Kampala. It is most famous for being the spot where the Nile River begins. The Nile is fed by Lake Victoria. The site of the source of the Nile is really not all that interesting. It is a bit of an arbitrary spot where the Nile begins/Lake Victoria ends. The source of the Nile was also one of the places where Ghandi had his ashes scattered.

The real highlight of the trip was the stop in Bujagali falls. This is a few kilometers down the Nile from the source. The place is absolutely amazing. We spent a few hours there, but it would have been easy to spend much more time there. For a few shillings, one of the locals will float down the falls, hanging on to a plastic jerry can (used to hold cooking oil), and allow us to take pictures of him. Hopefully my pictures turn out OK.
