Last Day in Uganda

Monday, November 28th, 2005

Today is my last full day in Uganda. I fly back to Arusha tomorrow. Only ten more days in Africa. Hopefully my trip back goes more smoothly than my other travels so far. Beside the one-day delay getting to Tanzania, my plane from Dar Es Salaam was delayed as well. […]

Sunrise Children’s Village

Monday, November 28th, 2005

Yesterday, we spent the afternoon at Sunrise Children’s Village in Entebbe. Sunrise Children’s Village is a home for orphans. Most of the orphans were created by the conflict in the Northern part of Uganda. There are currently 60 children at the village in Entebbe, and 32 children at the village in the […]

Jinja

Monday, November 28th, 2005

Spent saturday touring the city of Jinja. My tour operator gave me a free day tour of Jinja in order to appease me for the botched chimpanzee tracking trip. Jinja is about 80 kilometers from Kampala. It is most famous for being the spot where the Nile River begins. The Nile […]

Kampala Is A Riot

Friday, November 25th, 2005

Serious pun intented there. Apparently I just missed some serious rioting in Kampala. The presidential elections are coming up in Uganda, and the opposition leader was in Kampala. I don’t have a lot of background on it, but apparently he was arrested, and that is what set off the riots? […]

Happy Birthday

A happy belated 30th birthday (November 18th) to me.

Back From Chimpanzee Tracking

Thursday, November 24th, 2005

I’m back in Kampala today after spending the better part of yesterday tracking chimpanzees in Kibale National Park. It was a five hour drive, but it went extremely fast as we took in the Ugandan scenery. On the trip was me, another tourist, a British woman: Debbie, our driver Peter and the guide […]

Hello Kampala

Monday, November 21st, 2005

I arrived in Kampala, Uganda yesterday. Stayed in total roach motel that overlooked the central market. Kampala is way more laid back than Arusha. I don’t get hassled on the street anywhere near as much . Tomorrow I’m heading on a three-day safari to track the chimpanzees in Kibali National Park. […]

I’ve arrived in Arusha

Thursday, November 17th, 2005

The second attempt at my flight was successful - I made it in one piece. It is now the morning of my second day here. I am in the office of my friend’s organization UVIWA. Spent a good portion of yesterday walking and riding bikes. We set out to purchase […]

I’m Back In Milwaukee, Temporarily.

Sunday, November 13th, 2005

Northwest sucks. Had to turn around on way from Milwaukee to Minneapolis because of mechanical problems, so I missed all of my connections. There is only one flight from Amsterdam to Kilimanjaro, so I have to start all over again tomorrow. Not a great start to the trip.

Africa Trip #2

Sunday, November 13th, 2005

I’m leaving for Tanzania in a few hours. Can’t wait to spend the next 21 hours on planes and in airports. It’s windier than hell right now. Hopefully my plane doesn’t end up like this one.
